Tenualosailisha (Hilsa) is the most valuable finfish in the country but the resource is showing a declining trend for the past few years due to several reasons including destructive fishing practices. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has proposed the National Plan of Action (NPOA) for Hilsa as the situation is alarming and the need for a sensitisation workshop was felt at the national level. ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Kochi has completed a project on Hilsa conservation in the east and west coast of India.
Against this background the Society of Fisheries Technologists India in association with ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Cochin; ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore and the Inland Fisheries Society of India, Barrackpore is organising one day National Seminar on ‘Hilsa Fisheries and Conservation’ at CIFRI, Barrackpore on 18th November, 2015 at 9.00 am. The details are given in the brochure uploaded.
