Sustainable development in the fish processing industry by transition to natural refrigerants

 

State-of-the-art IQF tunnel freezer using CO2 refrigerant was inaugurated at Bellfoods Pvt. Ltd. Kochi on 20th June 2024 to take the country's seafood export to the next level by adopting natural refrigerants.


ICAR-CIFT, Kochi and NTNU, Norway under the collaborative project “Future Refrigeration India: INDEE+” sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs-Norway working on natural refrigerants and advancing CO2 refrigeration technology to promote sustainable development in the India seafood processing sector. This highly efficient and environmentally friendly CO2 cascade refrigeration system can freeze octopus and cuttlefish at -43 °C cooling temperature. The launched CO2 cascade IQF freezer unit was manufactured and supplied by CF-Tech Pvt. Ltd., Kochi.


UCO Bank, Ernakulam Zonal manager Mr. Ajith along with branch manager Mr. Praveen unveiled the IQF tunnel freezer using CO2 refrigerant at Bellfoods Pvt. Ltd. Kochi in the presence of Mr. Viju Puthusseril and Dr. Sherimon P. C, Bellfoods and CIFT project staffs. India's nationally determined contribution (NDC) puts forward sustainable development based on traditions and combats climate change by decoupling economic growth from utilizing global warming potential gases.
