Hands-on training on “Seafood Value Addition and Waste Management” was carried out at ICAR-CIFT and Govt. Fish Seed Hatchery, Peechi, Thrissur under the SCSP. The three-day training programme was carried out from 26th -28th October, 2022 and covered various aspects including hygienic seafood handling, value addition and secondary fish raw material utilization. Preparation of seafood value added products like fish pickle, prawn chutney powder, battered and breaded products like fish cutlet, fish balls, fish fingers and fish momos were demonstrated. Technical know-how on the effective fish waste utilization by converting it into feed, silage and manure were also carried out.
The valedictory function was presided over by Dr. Leela Edwin, Director, ICAR-CIFT. In her remarks, she briefed about the relevance of the training programme. Dr. J. Bindu, HOD, Fish Processing Division, emphasised the importance of seafood value addition for the socio-economic upliftment of the society and its present market scope. Dr. A. Jeyakumari, Senior Scientist, Fish Processing Division, briefed about the activities carried out during the three-day session.
A team of 17 participants from Peechi, Thrissur actively participated in the training programme and were equipped with the recent advances in seafood value addition. The technologies demonstrated during the training were highly welcomed by the participants on account of their technical effectiveness, economic viability and more over its simplicity.
