The hands-on training on ‘Hygienic handling and drying of fish’ was conducted for three days from 29th November to 1st December 2022 at Engineering Section, ICAR-CIFT. This training programme was sponsored by ICAR for SC candidates under Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan. The training was conducted with the objective to develop skills in pre-processing and drying of fish to the small-scale farmers or entrepreneurs. The training was inaugurated by the Director CIFT on 29th November. Nineteen SC candidates form different parts of Kerala were participated in this training. The training covered various aspects related to fish handling, pre-processing, drying, quality evaluation, storage, packaging of dried fish, fishery waste management, entrepreneurship opportunities, Government schemes for entrepreneurs, success stories. The working of machineries such as dryers, refrigerated fish vending kiosk, fish descaling machine, etc. was explained to the participants with practical sessions. The training course also had labs, workshop and pilot plant visits to attain practical knowledge to the participants. The participants were awarded certificate by the Director, CIFT in the presence other officials of CIFT on 1st December during the valedictory session.
