Inaugurating a five-day long training programme on ‘HACCP Concepts’ at Cochinon 18th June, 2019 (today);Dr. Ravishankar C.N., Director, ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT), said that over the last decade food safety and quality issues have been emerged as major concern that has prompted a great deal of activities by public health authorities and other concerned parties for implementing effective quality control programmes.
Stressing on the importance of the programme, Director, ICAR-CIFT said that all over the world, with the increase in food born disease and adulteration of food, there is an increasing awareness among the consumer about the food safety. Today, governments and other agencies involved in the food processing sector giving much emphasis on quality assurance following an efficient and effective mechanisms along the entire food chain starting from production to consumption to ensure safety, wholesomeness and functionality of the product.In this context, he affirmed that Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system recognised by WHO is the best system available to control food relatedhazards.
Thirty-five participants comprising of students, professionals and researchers are participating in the training programme. Dr. A.A.Zynudheen, Head, Quality Assurance and Management Division in his welcome address gave a brief outline of the programme. Dr. A.K.Mohanty, Head, Extension, Information and Statistics Division said that ICAR-CIFT (ISO 9001: 2015 Certified) is a front-runner in fish processing sector for imparting such training programmes. Dr. Sajesh.V.K, Scientist, Extension, Information and Statistics Division, offered vote of thanks.
