Inauguration of APFISHTECH
ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Cochin and Society of Fisheries Technologists, (India), SOFT(I), Cochin jointly organized ‘APFISHTECH-2018’ a seminar to address opportunities and challenges in Indian fisheries and aquaculture with special reference to Andhra Pradesh. The seminar was organized at Visakhapatnam during 23-24 March, 2018. Shri V. Padmanabham, President, Seafood Exporters Association of India inaugurated the Seminar and released the Book of Abstracts. He urged that fishery sector needs to be accorded agriculture status to bring down the cost of production. Traceability of antibiotic rejections is a challenging issue that needs to be addressed on priority basis or else the exports worth 40,000 crores will be drastically affected. He said that the stakeholders in the fishery sector need to be educated for sustainable growth. He also emphasized that challenges faced by the fishery sector are huge and it needs exchanges of views which would help in achieving wonderful results. He encouraged youngsters to take up entrepreneurship in fisheries using startup initiatives of the government. Dr. J.K. Sundaray, Director, ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA), Bhubaneswar was the Guest of Honour. He emphasized on economical use of water in crop production. He stressed that innovation should not compromise sustainability. He underlined that aquafarmers should lay faith on capable partners in the country and use indigenous technology for economical benefits.
