Beneficiaries receiving fishing gear material
Under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) of ICAR-CIFT, 100kg of fishing nets and accessories were handed over to the benefices in a function held at the Valanathkkad on 2nd February 2023. Valanathakkad is a serene island located at the northern end of the Vembnad estuary, Kerala. Around 50 families living in this village, belonging to the scheduled caste family is depended on fishing and related activities for their livelihood. Dr. M.P Remesan, Principal Scientist and Head (i/c), Fishing Technology Division, ICAR-CIFT presided over the function and distributed the fishing nets, float, and accessories. In his speech, he stressed various natural and anthropogenic problems which resulted in the depletion of major fishery resources. He also told about the responsibilities of induvial for caring and protecting fisheries and natural resources. Dr. Prajith K K, Senior Scientists, Fishing Technology division welcomed the gathering and Dr. Sandhya K M, Senior Scientists, Fishing Technology division proposed a vote of thanks.
