ICAR-CIFT, Kochi has organized a workshop on "Sustainable Transformation in Seafood Industry," on 2nd May 2024 at the CIFT campus, Kochi as part of the Indo-Norwegian project on Future refrigeration India. The workshop was attended by an INDEE+ Team from Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and SINTEF Ocean Research, PIs, Co-PIs and project staff from partner research institutions in India - BITS-Pilani, IIT-Madras, CIFT-Kochi and representatives from various seafood industries. In the inaugural address, Dr George Ninan, Director, ICAR-CIFT, Kochi highlighted the sustainability issues in seafood processing, Prof. Armin, NTNU, Norway talked about the project objectives in detail. The major focus of the workshop was on CO2-NH3 cascade refrigeration systems for seafood processing. During the workshop, participants explored a variety of topics, including energy efficiency, the benefits of the CO2-NH3 cascade arrangement, environmental impact and safety measures.  As part of the workshop, participants visited Bellfoods Pvt. Ltd., Kochi for a live demonstration of the CO2-NH3 cascade system supplied by Cochin Food Tech Pvt. Ltd. Participants also discussed best practices for integrating cascade systems into existing facilities and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

The success of the ICAR-CIFT workshop on "Sustainable Transformation in Seafood Industry", demonstrates a growing interest in environmentally friendly refrigeration solutions.
