The ICAR–Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR–CIFT), Kochi, has launched a five-day National Level Training Programme on “Leveraging Advanced Computational Software for Data Analysis” under the North East Programme component of ICAR–CIFT. The training is being held from 8th to 14th October 2025 at the Institute’s headquarters in Willingdon Island, Kochi.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. George Ninan, Director, ICAR–CIFT, who, in his inaugural address, emphasized the growing importance of advanced computational tools and analytical software in fisheries research. He highlighted how Deep Learning techniques and Machine Vision are playing a transformative role in fish species identification, image-based data processing, and applied scientific research.

A total of 17 research scholars from the North Eastern Region of India, currently pursuing studies in fisheries and allied fields, have been selected to participate in the training programme. The participants will gain hands-on exposure to advanced data analysis software such as R and Python, as well as Deep Learning applications for fisheries research.

The training aims to strengthen computational and analytical skills among young researchers from the North East, empowering them to leverage digital tools and technologies for evidence-based fisheries science and innovation.

This initiative forms part of ICAR–CIFT’s continuing efforts under its North East Programme to build capacity and promote technology-driven development in the fisheries sector across the North Eastern states of India.
