CIFT extends help in search and rescue operation in Ockhi affected areas

 

ICAR-CIFT Research vessel Matsyakumari-II is associated with the search and rescue operations carried out in connection with the Cyclone Ockhi and started from Cochin on 10.12.2017 at 7 AM. Mr. Francis Xavier, Skipper is leading the CIFT team involved in the operation. Two officials from the Enforcement Wing of the Fisheries Department, Govt. of Kerala along with two fishermen from Pozhiyoor are also onboard the CIFT Departmental vessel.  CMFRI Research Vessel Silver Pompano is also conducting search operations alongside. The vessels are equipped to conduct search at 140 nautical mile north of Alapuzha for 5 days initially as informed by the Joint Director of Fisheries, Ernakulam.    The Fishing Technology Division of ICAR-CIFT has also initiated a study on the impact of Ockhi in marine fisheries.
