On 29th May 2024, a team of 15 newly appointed Assistant Commissioners of Fisheries from the Department of Fisheries, Government of Maharashtra, visited the ICAR - Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT), Cochin. This visit was part of the training program conducted from 27th May to 31st May 2024, covering various Institutes, including CMFRI, CIFT, CIFNET and MPEDA. The training program aimed to improve the technical knowledge of these officers, who were recently appointed through direct service recruitment by the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC).
The Director of ICAR-CIFT, provided an overview of the institute's diverse activities and contributions to the fisheries sector. The Assistant Commissioners toured the CIFT Headquarters and visited all the Divisions Sections and laboratories. There were detailed interactions with the Scientists of each Division, which provided the team with comprehensive insights into the ongoing research and development activities. This visit aimed to update their technical knowledge, crucial for their roles overseeing fisheries in the different districts of Maharashtra. Areas having potential for interactions in both the marine and inland fisheries sectors in Maharashtra like responsible fishing system, value addition, waste utilization and quality assurance, were identified.
