The World Fisheries Day along with World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week was observed by the MFB Division of ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology on 21.11.2023, showcasing the institute's commitment to addressing a critical global health issue. The event was presided over by the institute's Director (i/c) Dr. M. P. Ramesan. Dr. Raja Swaminathan, Head of the MFB Division welcomed the gathering and explained the challenges posed by antimicrobial resistance in the context of fisheries and aquaculture. Mr. P.G. Jayakumar, President Njarackkal Fishermen co-operative society honored as the chief guest, provided valuable insights into the role of sustainable practices in mitigating AMR. Dr. Anil Kumar, Professor and Head of the Microbiology Department, Amrita Viswa Vidhyapeetam gave an awareness talk on “AMR in Indian Scenario”. Dr. Kumar's expertise shed light on the interdisciplinary nature of combating AMR, emphasizing the crucial role of microbiology in healthcare and food production. The occasion served as a platform for fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, furthering the collective effort to address the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance on a global scale. The program was concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Geethalaksmi, Head (i/c) EIS Division.
