A workshop on “Scientific Validation of Fisheries ITKs and Strategizing Dissemination of Deliverables” was organized by ICAR–Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Cochin on 2nd March, 2017 as part of the ESSO-INCOIS project on ‘Documenting and analysing ITKs in fisheries’ that is jointly being implemented by ICAR-CIFT, Cochin and Vijnana Bharati, New Delhi. Fishermen resource persons described traditional ways of fish identification and fishing practices. This was followed by interaction with scientists from CSIR-NIO, Cochin, ICAR-CIFT, Cochin and ICAR-CMFRI, Cochin on the topic. Dr .K.R. Muraleedharan from CSIR-NIO, Dr. Nikita Gopal, Dr. T. V Sankar, Dr. Leela Edwin, Dr. Saly N. Thomas, Dr. K.K Asha and Dr. J. Bindu from ICAR-CIFT, Dr. P.S. Swathilekshmi from ICAR-CMFRI and Shri Vivekanada Pai, Vijnana Bharati participated in the deliberations. Experts from media, Shri V. Unnikrishnan, Shri Manish Narayanan, Shri Abhilash, Shri Saj Kurien and Shri Socrates Vallath gave insights into how the scientific information can be made into forms that is understandable to the common reader and viewer.
