Under the TSP/STC scheme of ICAR-CIFT a 3 days training programme (17th to 19th January 2023) on “Hygienic Handling and Product Development from Fish” was conducted for the benefit of tribal fisher folk of Ukai. 20 tribal fisher folks from three villages participated in the training and learnt the different aspects of hygienic handling, value addition and packaging methods. The programme was inaugurated on 17th January by Shri. Surajbhai Vasava, president of Jila panchayat, Tapi district. A live demonstration and hands on training was given for the development of 9 different products and different packaging methods during the programme.
Dr. Smit Lende In-Charge Centre of Excellence in Aquaculture, Kamdhenu University was the guest for the valedictory function. During the valedictory function a small hygienic handling kit comprising of cutting board, different types of knives, apron, head gear, mask etc were distributed among the participants. A 50 lit. ice box and packaging material as fish selling aid were also distributed among the participants. Later on, the product developed during the training programme was shown & symbolically presented to Shri Kunwarjibhai Halapati, Hon'ble Minister of State, Department of Tribal Development, Gujarat state and explained about the TSP/STC programme of ICAR-CIFT. The programme was also explained and few products were presented to the local Member of Parliament Shri. Prabhubhai Vasava.
