Veraval Research Centre of ICAR-CIFT celebrated the Diamond Jubilee Foundation day
The Veraval Research Centre of ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology celebrated its 60th foundation day, the “Diamond jubilee” with great enthusiasm, fun and frolic on 29th April 2017. On the occasion Mr. Lakham Bhai Bhensla, the leading Fish Processor and President of Fish Exporters Association of Gujarat was invited as Chief guest. Dr. S.M. Zofair, Dean In-charge, College of Fisheries, Veraval and Md. Koya, Scientist In-charge, ICAR-CMFRI were guest of honours. The function was attended by most of the fish processors of Veraval and Porbandar. Deputy Director and Additional Director of Export Inspection Agency (EIA), and Additional Director, Marine Product Export Development Authority (MPEDA),Veraval also graced the occasion. The retired staff of VRC CIFT were the special invitee for the programme. The programme begun with the ICAR song. Dr. Ashish Kumar Jha, formally welcomed all the guest and dignitaries on and off the dias. In his welcome address Dr. Ashish Jha emphasized the importance of celebrating the foundation day, he told that this is an occasion for all of us to retrospect and introspect our work and prepare a road map for future to face the challanges ahead. He also told how few of the technologies developed by ICAR-CIFT, like 15.5 m trawl and ring seinechanged the way fishing was done, he also had given special mention to the technologies like chitin, chitosan, solar drier etc. After the welcome address, Dr. G.K.Sivaraman, Scientist In-charge of Research Centre of ICAR-CIFT, Veraval, has given presidential address. In his presidential address Dr. Sivaraman elaborately discussed about the work and activities of the CIFT, Cochin and Veraval Research Centre. In his address he underlined how the centre is contributing significantly in developing region specifc technologies for the benefit of fisher folk.He also spoke about the long standing demand of the processor regarding the setup of NABL accredited laboratory. During the programme some of the leading exporters like Kenny Thomas, Piyus Fofandi and Karsan Bhai expressed their view on the work and services of ICAR-CIFT. All the speakers unanimously praised and appreciated the work of ICAR-CIFT and also raised their concern about the preparedness for the future challanges. During the programme three brochures which were prepared by the scientists of ICAR-CIFT, Veraval were released by the dignitaries.
Veraval Research Centre of ICAR-CIFT used the occasion to honour and felicitate the retired staff of VRC-CIFT for their noticeable contribution.
At the end Mrs. Renuka V. Scientist presented the vote of thanks. The programme ended with the national anthem.
