Training programme on Square mesh codend fabrication and responsible fishing practices
As part of the “One week at fishing harbor programme” of NETFISH-MPEDA, Veraval Rearch Centre of ICAR-CIFT conducted a training programme on “Square mesh codend fabrication and responsible fishing practices”. The programme was organized by NETFISH in association with Shri B.A. Yadav Education & Rural Development Foundation Trust during 12- 16 February, 2016 at Mangrol, Gujarat. In the inaugural session, the Chief Guest of the programme, Dr. G.K. Sivaraman, Scientist Incharge, Veraval RC of ICAR-CIFT delivered a talk on the recent technological improvements in fisheries sector with special reference to the harvest and post harvest sector.
In the training cum practical demonstration of square mesh codend fabrication Dr. K.K. Prajith, Scientist, explained the importance and benefits of 40mm square mesh codend. He also stressed on the need for responsible fishing techniques for resource conservation. During the practical session, Shri J.B. Malamdi, Technician, demonstrated designing and fabrication of square mesh codend for commercial trawl nets.
During the valedictory function, Shri. Velji Bhai Masani, Authority Member, MPEDA, was the Chief Guest. Shri Madav Bhai, President Boat Owners Association, Mangrol, Shri Ransod Bhai, President, Fishermen Cooperative Society and Dr. Prajith offered felicitations. Vote of thanks was proposed by Shri Jignesh Visavadia, State Co-ordinator, NETFISH-MPEDA.
