Visakhapatnam Research Centre of ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology has conducted a five days training programme on “Quality Assurance of Fish and Fish Products” during 20-24th November 2023. The programme was organised under the Govt. of India’s Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) component. A total of 18 B.Sc. students from different colleges including Dr. Lankapalli Bullaya College, Dr. V.S. Krishna Govt. Degree college , Viskaha Govt. Degree & PG college, and Andhra University (Dept. of Biochemistry, Dept. of Microbiology and Dept of Biotechnology) have participated in the training programme. Shri. Sudhanshu Sekhar Das, Additional Director, Export Inspection Agency, Visakhapatnam has inaugurated the programme. In his inaugural address, Shri. S.S. Das briefed the importance of compliance of food safety standards by the seafood industry and the need for its awareness among the public.
The students were given hands on training on various aspects of seafood quality and assessment, HACCP, food safety standards, hygienic handling requirements, Antimicrobial resistance and detection, seafood pathogens etc. by the Scientists of ICAR CIFT Visakhapatnam Centre. All the students have enthusiastically participated in the five days programme. The resource persons for the training programme were Dr. Viji P., Senior Scientist (Co-ordinator) and Dr. B. Madhusudana Rao, Principal Scientist, Dr. Jesmi Debbarma, Senior Scientist and Dr. K. Ahamed Bash, Scientist. Scientist-in Charge, Visakhapatnam Centre of ICAR-CIFT has distributed the certificate of participation and training manual during the valedictory session on 24.11.2023.
