ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Cochin organized a ‘Sensitization Programme at Kadamakukdy village of Ernakulam district on 17 December, 2016. The programme held at Govt. VHSE, Kadamakudy was to assess the possible areas of intervention in the harvest and post harvest fisheries management of the village. The main objective of the programme was to bring together interested parents and students from the school to share their traditional knowledge on the prevailing practices in the sector and to understand the utilization pattern of resources, so as to scientifically and commercially address the issues faced by the villagers in the exploitation of their harvested resources. Dr. S. Sindhu, Principal of the school welcomed the gathering. The meeting was presided by Shri Jayaprasad, a progressive fisherman and President, Parent Teacher Association of the school. Smt. Sona Jayaraj, District Panchayat Member was the special guest for the meeting. The research team from ICAR-CIFT headed by Dr. A.K. Mohanthi, Head, EIS Division explained about the research and extension activities of the Institute. Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, Principal Scientist and Dr. P.K. Binsi, Scientist interacted with the participants and sorted out the untapped fisheries related opportunities in the village.
