ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology organized Training Programme on “Net fabrication” under Tribal Sub-Plan/ Schedule Tribe Component (TSP/STC) from 17th-19th October 2022 for the tribal fisher group from Pazhassi Reservoir, Kannur at ICAR-CIFT, Kochi, Kerala. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Leela Edwin, Director (i/c), ICAR-CIFT, Kochi. In her introductory remarks, she highlighted the various developments in reservoir fisheries and harvesting technologies made by the institute. Dr. Muhamed Ashraf, Head (i/c) Fishing Technology division, and Dr. Nikita Gopal, Principal Scientist & Nodal Officer TSP/ STC, offered felicitations. The three-day training programme included various sessions on reservoir fishing methods, fishing net materials and their technological advancements. Hand on training was given on mending and fabrication of improved gillnets and fish traps. The participants were 19 tribal fishers including 12 men and 7 women. The training program was concluded with distribution of fishing gears and certificates to the participants. The programme was co-ordinated by Dr, Sandhya K.M. and Dr. Manjulekshmi, Scientists, Fishing Technology Division, ICAR-CIFT, Kochi.
