National seminar - FISHTECH-19

National seminar - ‘FISHTECH-19’ on ‘Utilization of Secondary raw materials: Challenges and Marketing Opportunities for Seafood Industry’ was jointly organized by Society of Fisheries Technologists (India), Kochi, ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR-CIFT), Kochi and ICAR-Mumbai Research Center of CIFT on 11th June  2019 at Taloja Manufacturers Association Hall, Taloja,  Navi Mumbai. 


The programme started with registration by the participants followed by ICAR song and welcome address by Dr. L. Narasimha Murthy,Principal Scientist & Scientist-In-Charge, Mumbai Research Centre of ICAR-CIFT. In his welcome address Dr. Murthy welcomed all the dignitaries on the dias including Chief Guest Shri. RustomIrani, President, Seafood Export Association of India, Maharashtra, Guest of honors, Dr. Sanu Jacob, Joint Director, EIA, Mumbai  and Shri. RajakumarNaik  Deputy Director, MPEDA, Mumbai, Dr. Zynudheen A. A. , Principal Scientist & HOD (i/c) QAM Division, ICAR-CIFT, Kochi, Dr. Manoj P. Samual, Principal Scientist & HOD, Engineering division, ICAR-CIFT, Kochi and Dr. Elavarasan, Scientist, Fish processing division, ICAR-CIFT, Kochi. He also welcomed representatives from various Seafood Industries in and around Mumbai, fish farmers and students.In his welcome address Dr. Murthy has explained need for utilization of secondary raw materials from seafood industries in the present context and role of ICAR-CIFT in developing technologies for proper utilization of the same.


During the programme, souvenir of the National Seminar and six brochuerson technologies related to utilization of secondary raw material in regional language was released by officials from Seafood Export Association, MPEDA, EIA  and  ICAR-CIFT. Dr. Zynudheen A. A.,Principal Scientist & HOD (i/c) QAM Division, ICAR-CIFT, Kochigave his presidential address where he explained the importance of utilization of secondary raw material for the entrepreneurs in the present context of fisheries industry and technologies available with the ICAR-CIFT for such utilization. 


The Chief Guest of the functionShri.RustomIrani, President, Seafood Export Association of India, Maharashtra appreciated the initiative by ICAR-CIFT in conducting such seminar for the first time in Mumbai region that will be beneficial for the seafood industries in and around Mumbai and other progressive stakeholders in the field. The guestof honour of the programmeDr. Sanu Jacob, Joint Director, EIA, Mumbai and Shri. RajakumarNaik, Deputy Director, MPEDA, Mumbai expressed their views on Challenges and Marketing Opportunities in utilization of secondary raw materials. The inaugural session of seminar was ended with vote of thanks by Dr. A. Jeyakumari, Scientist, MRC of ICAR-CIFT.


The FishTech 19 seminar consisted of an exclusive technical session on Utilization of secondary raw material from seafoods, Agricultural and animal farm inputs from fishery waste,Protein and protein derivatives from secondary raw materials of aquatic originand Innovative engineering technologies for post-harvest fisheries. Samual, Principal Scientist & HOD, Engineering division, Dr. Elavarasan, Scientist, Fish processing division, ICAR-CIFT, Kochi and Dr. L. Narasimha Murthy,Principal Scientist & Scientist-In-Charge, Mumbai Research Centre of ICAR-CIFTgave presentations during technical session. The session was followed by the panel discussion by the field experts and representatives from various seafood processing industries on the issues and problems faced by the sea food industries in Maharashtra. Interactive subjects included in the discussion was scope of utilization of fish scales, investment cost for agriculture and farm inputs, fish silage making and sustainability of process, aspects related to fish preservation, solar dryers and their utilization, use of Agri Business Incubation facility at the centre, etc.The FishTech 19 seminar was ended with summary and concluding remarks by Dr. L. N. Murthy Principal Scientist & Scientist-In-Charge, Mumbai Research Centre of ICAR-CIFT.
