A training programme on “Fish Handling and Drying” was organised by Engineering Division, ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Cochin during 24 – 25 October, 2017. Seven participants from various places of Kerala were participated in this training programme. The training programme was inaugurated by Dr. C.N. Ravishankar, Director, ICAR-CIFT. In his inaugural address, Dr. C.N. Ravishankar emphasized the importance of value addition of fish and drying of fish and fishery products. Dr. A.K. Mohanty (Principal Scientist and Head, EIS Division), Dr. Manoj P Samuel (Principal Scientist and Head, Engineering Division), all Heads of Divisions of CIFT and all staffs of Engineering Division were attended this inauguration session. Dr. A.K. Mohanty explained the role of ICAR-CIFT in developing post-harvest fishery technologies and transfer of technology to fisher folk. Dr. Manoj P Samuel detailed about the aim and scope of this training programme. Theory and practical sessions on handling and pre-processing of fish for drying, quality analysis of dried fish and packaging of dried fish was conducted for the benefits of trainees in the area of hygienic fish drying. Technical session on Business Incubation Centre of ICAR-CIFT was explained by Dr. George Ninan (Principal Scientist, In charge, ITMU). An interaction session with dryer manufacturers was arranged for the benefit of trainees to gather much knowledge about solar based drier design and installation procedure. Participants were interested and actively participated in each session of this training programme.
