ICAR - CIFT celebrated Agricultural Education Day

It was an exciting day for the students of naval base Kendriya Vidyalaya 2 and Kendriya Vidyalaya INS Dhronacharya  who visited Central Institute of Fisheries Technology under Indian Council of Agricultural Research as part of National Agriculture Education Day celebration. Inaugurating the programme Dr.Susheela Mathew, Head, Biochemistry and Nutrition Division, CIFT and Director I/C , ICAR-CIFT discussed the importance of the National Agril Education Day and highlighted the significant achievements of ICAR-CIFT, She called the students to play a prominent role for building their career in agriculture and allied sector to make the country moving towards a sustainable livelihood system. Dr.SalyN.Thomas, Principal Scientist, Fishing Technology Division and Dr.M.M.Prasad, Head, MFB Division and Dr. Manoj Samuel interacted with students regarding the scientific developments.  Students were exposed to various fishing methods spanning from hook and line to factory vessels. They were also sensitised on the negative impacts like overfishing, resource depletion, ghost fishing and the importance of responsible fishing methods. Significance of water conservation and issues related to ensuing climate change were also discussed. Dr.A.K.Mohanty, Head, Extension, Information and Statistics division gave an overview about  higher education opportunities in agriculture and allied subjects and its career prospects. Later, student visited various laboratories of CIFT and also briefed about the activities of pilot processing plant and net fabrication unit.  Dr.A.Suresh and Dr.A.R.S. Menon coordinated the programme.
