ICAR CIFT, Cochin in association with Palluruthy block panchayath organized a programme on “Sustainable management of black clam, and its utilization for livelihood security through better practices” on 13th March 2025 at Dr. Ambedkar panchayath hall, Kumbalam. The programme was organized under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan of ICAR-CIFT, Cochin. The programme was inaugurated by the Dr. M. P. Ramesan, Head of Fishing Technology Division. Baby Thambi (Palluruthy Block Panchayath President) presided over the function. Dr. A. Suresh (Principal Scientist & Nodal Officer SCSP), Dr. K.A. Martin Xavier (Senior Scientist), K.S. Radhakrishnan (Kumbalam Panchayath President), P.A. Malik (Ward Member) and Bisi Pradeep (Ward Member) and A.C. Sivadasan were also present. Clam seed ranching was carried out in the Kumbalam backwaters. Clam harvesting equipment and Clam processing utensils were distributed to clam fishers.
