The ICAR-CIFT, Visakhapatnam Research Centre, in collaboration with ICAR-CIBA, Chennai, organized two awareness programmes on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and White Faeces Syndrome (WFS) for shrimp farmers in Kajuluru and A.V. Nagaram villages, East Godavari district (now Kakinada district), on March 6-7, 2025. These programmes were conducted under ICAR’s All India Network Project on Antimicrobial Resistance (AINP-AMR) to sensitize farmers to the critical issue of antimicrobial resistance.
Sri K. Karunakar Rao, District Fisheries Officer, Kakinada, attended as the guest of honour. Dr. B. Madhusudana Rao, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIFT, delivered a talk on “Antibiotic Residues and Antimicrobial Resistance in Shrimp Aquaculture,” while Dr. T. Satish Kumar, Scientist, ICAR-CIBA, Chennai, presented on “White Faeces Syndrome in Shrimp Aquaculture.”
Eighty farmers participated, actively engaging in discussions on disease management and biosecurity. They expressed keen interest and stated that the awareness programmes provided valuable insights into tackling diseases in shrimp aquaculture and understanding the challenges posed by AMR.
