Fish is a very important natural resource and its judicious exploitation calls for adoption of technologies that are carefully designed and scientifically proven. Unlike in other commodities like agricultural products or animal products vide variations in behavioural patterns and other intrinsic characteristics necessitates specialized technologies for the harvesting and processing of this resource. Developing appropriate harvesting methods, including specialized gear and vessels for the various species is an area where constant innovations are required. Utilization of the harvested product depends on availability of suitable technologies for product development and maintenance of product quality. Sustainable and ecofriendly exploitation of the resource is yet another important challenge. A good amount of information is available on these aspects and constant efforts are being made to refine our knowledge about the underlying basic principles and update the technologies employed in the utilization of fishery resources.

Here we are putting together some basic information on these aspects.
