Results of ICAR – InterInstitutional Tournament (South Zone),

held at ICAR- CIFT, Kochi during 25-29, May 2015

 

The ICAR Inter Institutional sports meet (South Zone) was organized by Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Cochin lasted for 5 days starting from 25 May 2015. Total of 613 participants from 23 ICAR Institutes took part in the various sports and games events. Sports and game events were held both for men and women. A meeting of the Chief –De- Missions and Managers of all the contingents were held at Conference hall of CIFT on 24.05.2015 at 3.00 PM and the schedule of events and draws of the games were finalized.

 

The inaugural function was held on 25th morning  at the Maharaja’s College ground with a March past from the contingents from south zone ICAR Institutes followed by hoisting of the ICAR flag, lighting of the torch and the oath taking ceremony. The chief guest of the function, Dr. K. N. Raghavan, IRS, Commissioner of Customs, declared the tournament open.

 

All the athletic events (100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1500 m, 4x100 m relay,  long jump, high jump, javelin, shot put and discus throw) and two games (Football and Kabaddi) were held at Maharajas college ground. 5 km cycle race was held at the Cochin Port trust, Willingdon Island. Volleyball (smashing), Badminton, Basketball, Table tennis, carom and chess were held at the Rajeev Gandhi Indoor stadium and Volleyball (shooting) was held at the Fire Station Office, Kadvanthra.  All the sports and games events were officiated by qualified officials and also included Asian and International referees. Athletics event were completed within two days and the indoor games were completed in three days. There was good participation, sportsmanship in all the events and was keenly contested and the best team won.

 

Ms. P. Jeyanthi of CIFT, Cochin is the individual athletic champion (women) of the meet and the individual athletic champion (men) is shared by Shri. Paulose Jacob Peter of CMFRI, Cochin and Shri. M.K. Samson, NAARM, Hyderabad. The overall Winner and the Runners up of this year was CMFRI Cochin and IIHR, Bengaluru respectively.

 

The closing ceremony was held on 29th May 2015 at 10 am. It began with a jumbled march past of the participants. Shri. T.C. Yohannan, Olympian and Arjuna Award Winner was the Chief Guest for the function.  He distributed the prizes and declaring the meet closed.  The ICAR flag was handed over to ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad,the host institute of the next meet.

Colorful Beginning for ICAR South Zone Sports Tournament

 
 
The ICAR Inter-Institutional Sports Tournament – 2015 (South Zone) kicked off at Maharaja’s  College Grounds, Ernakulam Cochin on 25 May, 2015.  The tournament is being hosted by ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Cochin. About 600 participants from 25 ICAR institutions in the southern states Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are participating in the tournament. The tournament is being held in three different venues including Maharaja’s College grounds and Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium.

 

Dr. K.N. Raghavan, IRS, Commissioner of Customs, Cochin declared the tournament open in the inaugural  function presided over by Dr. Ravishankar C.N., Director, CIFT, Cochin.  Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Raghavan opined that sports play an important role in moulding a complete person with a healthy mind and healthy body. While welcoming the participants, Dr. Ravishankar explained about the genesis of ICAR Sports tournaments in the Golden Jubilee Year of ICAR in 1979 when the then Director General of ICAR Dr. M.S. Swaminathan instituted the tournament as per the proposal given by CIFT, Cochin. While offering felicitations, Dr. A. Gopalakrishnan, Director, CMFRI, Cochin hoped that the tournament will set new records. After the oath taking ceremony, Dr. P. Pravin, Organizing Secretary proposed the vote of thanks.
