Swadeshi Science Congress concludes at ICAR – CIFT, Kochi

 

The 31st Swadeshi Science Congress, organized by the Swadeshi Science Movement, Kerala, in association with the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT), concluded today in Kochi. The three-day Congress, which ran from November 7 to 9, centered on the theme “Towards Net Zero Emission: Approaches and Strategies” and brought together researchers, scientists and students from across the country to discuss sustainable solutions for a carbon-neutral future.

Shri. George Kurian, Hon'ble Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and Minority Affairs, was the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the government’s commitment to phasing out vehicles powered by fossil fuels by 2030, as part of India’s broader goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions. Shri Kurian emphasized that the journey towards net-zero carbon emissions is crucial for future generations.

The function was presided over by Dr. George Ninan, Director of ICAR-CIFT. Dr. Tripta Thakur, Director General of the National Power Training Institute delivered Valedictory Address. Dr. K. Muralidharan, President of Vijnana Bharati- Swadeshi Science Movement; Shri. Abga Raveendranadha Babu, Organizing Secretary (South Zone) of Vijnana Bharati; P.A Vivekananda Pai, Secretary General of Vijnana Bharati;  Dr. Nikita Gopal, HoD of Extension, Information & Statistics  ICAR-CIFT and Secretary General; Dr. J. Bindu, Head of the Fish Processing Division; and Dr. Toms C. Joseph, Principal Scientist at ICAR-CIFT also spoke.

Fourteen young scientists were honored with Best Paper Awards. The Dr. Ravindran Memorial Award and the C.A Jayaprakash Memorial Award were also presented at the event. Over 200 papers were presented in 14 sessions during the congress. The 31st Swadeshi Science Congress successfully reaffirmed India’s commitment to environmental resilience and sustainability.
